Swans International School

Founded in 1971 by the Swan-Liggan family, Swans International School has a proud legacy in Marbella. Initially operating from two villas, the school has expanded significantly over the years. In 2006, the secondary campus was established in Sierra Blanca, beneath the La Concha Mountain, and provides an excellent atmosphere for both academic and extracurricular engagement. Swans now houses over 800 students of multiple nationalities, and continues to play an important role in the Marbella community. The mission of Swans International School is to deliver a contemporary education grounded in traditional values, nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared to succeed in an interconnected world.

At Swans, students experience a truly bilingual education with simultaneous Spanish and English curricula, where English serves as the primary language of instruction. The school is dedicated to academic excellence, with a team of long-standing and passionate educators who focus on a student-centred approach. With small class sizes, students receive personalised attention, enhancing their learning experiences to meet individual needs. Our committed teachers strive to nurture every student’s potential, balancing personal development with academic success. Swans offers a wide array of extracurricular activities, emphasising the importance of fitness, teamwork, and school pride. Our students have achieved great success in local and international sports competitions, and also have opportunities to participate in debating, with engagement in events like the European Youth Parliament and Model United Nations. The school runs a successful STEM club, in which students have built (and raced!) their own car in national competitions. A vibrant sense of community flourishes at Swans, highlighted by events such as the Summer Gala, Christmas Fayre, which cultivate lasting memories and a warm atmosphere that extends beyond academics. Our graduates have secured places at top universities worldwide, including LSE, Cambridge, Imperial, and ESADE, pursuing fields from Law and Medicine to Politics and Business. These results reflect our students’ resilience and Swans’ commitment to academic excellence. Swans students have achieved outstanding results in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. In 2023, the school was recognised as the leading IB school in Spain and ranked among the top 100 globally, with an average score of 36 points. The school regularly averages between 34-36 points, with over 50 students earning 40 plus IB points in the past seven years, and some gaining a perfect 45 – an accomplishment attained by less than 1% of IB candidates globally. The school also boasts remarkable (I) GCSE and GCSE results that underscore its high academic standards.
