Almuñecar International School

Almuñécar International School, the only British school in the Granada province, is run on a not for profit basis, to offer Spanish and expatriate families, a British style education for their children. It was founded in 1989 by a small group of Spanish parents who wanted a different form of education, distinct from the education available locally, a British education.

Almuñécar International School offers an educational model where academic rigour is seamlessly integrated into a «family-style”, nurturing environment. Our core philosophy, «Roots and Wings,» serves as a caring yet competitive framework for global mobility. We provide the «roots»—a stable foundation of values and world-class British curriculum—and the «wings»—the ambition and self-assurance required to navigate the ever-changing world dynamic. This dual focus ensures that AIS students do not just reach their potential; they expand it. This success is built upon our curriculum design that prioritises personalised attention throughout their school lives, preparing them for their futures and for global university access. Our model ensures that every child’s academic and personal journey is meticulously monitored from their first day in Early Years, where they are immersed in English. They choose, explore, experiment through play under the guidance of their teachers. We believe that our focus on safety, happiness then learning, is our key to success. This small-scale environment creates a unique sense of safety, which is the essential prerequisite for successful learning. At AIS, students feel secure enough to make those mistakes, learn from them, and progress. Here, emotional well-being is not a secondary concern but the very engine of academic success and personal happiness. We believe that feedback to all students is key. We focus on praising their strength areas and the indicating the main areas for development giving clear steps so that each student knows how to make progress and acts on this feedback. Our students are happy to come to school, they respect their teachers and want to become caring global citizens. For 37 years, Almuñécar International School has been the choice for families who refuse to compromise between academic rigour and a supportive community. Our «Roots and Wings» philosophy has created a multi-generational legacy where many ex-alumni now entrust us with their own children’s futures.

Academic results

We are a non selective school with small classes especially for GCSE and A Levels. This means that we are able to personalise our teaching and guide students to achieve the best results possible for each individual. We achieve 97 - 100% pass rate and university entry for our Year 13 students. More importantly, we prepare our students for their next step whether it be to university, the world of work or as an apprentice. We work with our students on their emotional intelligence, determination and resilience, forming excellent relationships with all, being a tolerant person who can learn and share with everyone, to be critical and creative thinkers, to work well as an individual and in a team, and to make the most of every experience.
